Hikes/Treks around Bangalore

If you are an active person like I am, are in Bangalore and are wondering what to do over the weekend, here is a list of places you can go for a hike without the help of a guide. For those of you who do not know the difference between a hike and a trek here it is:

Hike: A hike involves climbing and long walks and is usually contained without a day or overnight

Trek: Trekking involves long vigorous hikes spanning over multiple days.

Huthri Durga

Distance from Bangalore: 75KMs (from Majestic) or 1hr 45 mins

Difficulty Level: Easy – Moderate

Duration: 45 mins – 1 hour

  • There are no shops or anything at the top, carry your own water
  • Do not litter!

ShivaGange

Distance from Bangalore: 51km (from Majestic) or 1hr 20 mins

Difficulty Level: Moderate

Duration: 1 hr 30 mins – 2 hrs

Tips:

  • There are many shops you’ll find snacks and water at. But try to carry your own water to avoid buying single use plastic
  • This place has abundance of monkeys so be careful with what you carry

Nijagal Betta

Distance from Bangalore: 54km (from Majestic) or 1hr 30 mins

Difficulty Level: Moderate

Duration: 45 Minutes – 1 Hour

Chota Ladakh

This is not a hiking place, but could get a good walk around. This is an abandoned quarry that you could spend a good Saturday evening around. The sunsets here are surreal.

Tips:

  • There is a water hole here. Do not under estimate the depth because there have been incidents of people drowning here
  • Carry your own food/water and you can have some nice picnic under the shade of the trees around
  • Respect the privacy of the locals there
